GRANADA –Sierra Nevada is preparing for what will be the second world championship in its history. At a press conference yesterday the World Junior Granada Snowboarding Championship was presented, to be held in theSierra Nevada from March 22nd to April 1st with the participation of 300 athletes from 36 countries.
The event will host slope style, boarder cross, half pipe and parallel and will take place in the Super Park Hill Sulayr de la Loma de Dílar, which is one of the key venues for both the final of the 2013 Snowboard and Freestyle World Cup and the 2015 Granada Winter Universiade.
The press conference was attended by Cetursa CEO Maria Jose Lopez and Maria Jose Rienda, who works in the competition section. Also present were the President of the Royal Spanish Federation of Winter Sports Eduardo Roldan, the Secretary General of sports Andalusia Ignacio Rodriguez, and the Secretary General of Granada 2015 David Cabello. The latter explained that the World Championship will bring experience and of course the opportunity to promote Granada 2015. “I would like to stress that we will meet our commitments and this event is perhaps the most important test event for the snow sports. From the infrastructure point of viewGranadasends a very important message to FISU: the snow sports are ready”, Cabello said.
Ignacio Rodriguez for his part stressed the importance of major events as one of the pillars of the sports policy of the Government of Andalusia. “Besides the basic sport and infrastructure, great competitions like this World Championship, the 2013 World Cup and the 2015 Winter Universiade help meeting the objectives we set for this legislature. In addition to portrayingAndalusiaas a worldwide brand, there are also the key elements in boosting local economies, “Rodriguez said during his speech.
