2013 SU Update: Kazan 2013 Delegates meet FISU Executives

TAIPEI CITY – The 11th edition of FISU Forum continues its work in Taipei today, March 27, with the delegates of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate taking an active part in its plenary sessions.

Before proceeding with the Day 2 agenda, participants of the 2012 FISU Forum entitled «University Sport:A Platform for Sustainable Development» summarized the results of the first day. The topics discussed during Day 1 covered several issues, among others sports as a platform for lifelong development, sports as an integral part of global education, sports as a way to improve life quality and sportsmanship as a means to promote self-development.

The main idea expressed by the keynote speakers was that, being an integral part of modern global society, sports and sportsmanship increase life quality and afford a unique opportunity for an all-round development of an individual. There is still a lot to do to integrate sports in an education process and university sports must act as a mediator here.

The official part of Day 2 started with the presentation of Kazan 2013. The forum participants were offered an insight into the project of the 27th Summer Universiade which was introduced by 1st Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Azat Kadyrov. The meeting also received updates on a large-scale transformation process happening in the host city which is getting ready to welcome the 27th Summer Universiade, including the construction of facilities to accommodate athletes and to stage high-profile competitions.

Later on, FISU International Education Centre Executive Director Liliya Barieva introduced the audience to the strategy for sustainable development of the new-format education institution, guiding principles for the construction of all education programs and courses, as well as the Kazan 2013 volunteer program and volunteer exchange projects. She also presented the concept of the 2013 FISU Conference which is to be held inKazanat Games time and revealed a few topics likely to be covered by next year’s conference.

The FISU Conference being a mandatory event of the Universiade program, the hosting contract is expected to be signed in May 2012, when the FISU Executive Committee Meeting will take place inKazan.

Meanwhile, this morning 1st Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Azat Kadyrov had a working meeting withFISUPresident Claude-Louis Gallien, 1st Vice-President of FISU and RSSU President Oleg Matytsin, FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond and FISU First Assessor and Chair of the FISU Educational Services Committee (CESU) Ms Alison Odell. The parties addressed the issues related to the preparation of the FISU CT Chairs’ inspection visits to Kazan, FISU EC Meeting in May 2012, FISU General Assembly and FISU Gala, both of which will be held in September 2012.

A careful consideration was also given to theFISUInternational Education Centre’s strategic development and timelines for implementation of education programs. In her report Lilya Barieva talked about the development of the centre’s activity plan and FISU IEC Operating Agreement which is due to be signed in Kazan during the FISU EC Meeting.
