2013 SU Update: FISU СT Chairs discuss Progress of Kazan 2013′s Key Functional Areas

27 April 2012

KAZAN The CT Chairs continue their visit toKazan, the host city of the 27th Summer Universiade, to evaluate and discuss the 2013 Games’ progress.

This CTI Inspection that kicked off on April 14th will be the last one scheduled before the start of the 2013 Games inKazan. The first visit took place in summer 2010. The FISU Inspection Delegation includes Mark Vandenplas, FISU Director for the Summer Universiade; John Warnock, FISU CTI Chair for the Summer Universiade; Dejan Susovic, FISU Media and Communications Director/Head of TV Production, as well as FISU CT Chairs for the sports on the Kazan 2013 program.

The CT Chairs have meetings with experts of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, competition managers and officials that are appointed from the list of national sports federation representatives and discuss the progress of an action plan prepared on each of the functional areas in the build up to the 2013 Games.

The goal of the visit is to approve the first edition of the sports operational plan and detailed sports competition schedule, which is an integral part of this plan. The plan is written down minutely and in detail and provides a clear understanding of how all sporting sessions will be planned out, how many athletes will take part in the Games, how many medals will be awarded in each sport and discipline and how the victory ceremonies will be organized.

The other item on the agenda is human resources and staff structure of Kazan 2013. The Games organizers and CT Chairs give careful consideration to the recruitment of regular staff, temporary employees or volunteers to the Organizing Committee. The same can be said of judges; the number of judges at Games venues, their belonging to this or that client group and specific accommodation, catering needs arising under it as well as provision of judge uniforms will be agreed upon by the end of the visit.

Zoning of venues and premises that are expected to be put into operation for the duration of the Games will also be discussed. All allocated zones will be supplied with computers and other office equipment. Transport timetables are being fully devised for all client groups, i.e. visitors, athletes, journalists, judges and VIP people. During the meetings the CT Chairs examine detailed lists of sports equipment and facilities that are due to be approved, as well as study other issues related to Kazan 2013′s transportation infrastructure.

The CTI Inspection will run until April 30 and will end with the official closing ceremony and summing up of results of inspections of the Games’ key functional areas.
