KAZAN – Dr. Lawrence Rink, Chair of the FISU Medical Committee, paid a working visit to Kazan and held a number of meetings to discuss provision of medical care during the 27th Summer Universiade.
The Department of Medical, Sanitary and Epidemiological Services of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate facilitated several meetings between Dr. Rink, Veronika Skvortsova, Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Social Development of the Russian Federation, and Airat Farrakhov, Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The meetings discussed a wide array of questions related to Kazan’s build-up to the 2013 Summer Universiade, functioning of medical and preventive treatment facilities, Games-period pharmaceutical provision, importation of pharmaceuticals and other medical supplies. Medical insurance programs being another important issue on the agenda, the meeting participants mapped out serious action plans for its implementation. A draft of the technical manual on medical services at the 2013 Summer Universiade was also approved.
Discussions with the presence of representatives of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and Federal Service on Customers’ Rights Protection and Human Well-being Surveillance were held to analyze the preparations of doping control services for the Games, food safety efforts, medical care provision during the Games, etc.
The Games-time doping control program was also discussed. Special attention was given to doping control testing, therapeutic use of prohibited substances and doping control education program for participants of the 27th World University Summer Games. Other questions that will be discussed further at the next meeting are placement of cafes on the territory of the Universiade Village, catering arrangements for certain client groups of the Kazan 2013 Summer Universiade, etc.
