KAZAN – An anti-terror drill took place in Kazan on May 22nd as the security services prepare for the Kazan 2013 Summer Universiade.
The drill was carried out on the premises of the Vatan Sports Complex as part of a series of anti-terror exercises which the organizers run in the lead-up to the Games. The event was facilitated by the Directorate of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being in the Republic of Tatarstan, Centre of Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Republic of Tatarstan, Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian State Anti-Plague Research Institute «Microbe», Republican Centre of Disaster Medicine of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Tatarstan, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, Russia’s Ministry of the Interior in the Republic of Tatarstan and other responsible ministries and departments.
Employees of the Vatan Sports Complex were also involved in the exercise which simulated a biological attack on their venue.
The anti-terror drill’s goal was to find out how quick and efficient the response will be in case of a terrorist attack involving an unknown pathogenic biological agent, including preventive and anti-epidemic activities, provision of medical care to population, evacuation operations and so on.
The drill tested an interaction between different departments, liquidation of medical and sanitary consequences of the staged terrorist attack, work of mobile medical teams, emergency services, responsible organizations and executive authorities.
Measures were taken to integrate information and analytical systems of the Directorate of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being in the Republic of Tatarstan, Centre of Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, Russian State Anti-Plague Research Institute «Microbe». It may therefore be stated the drill was conducted successfully.
