KAZAN – President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov met with FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond today, August 23rd, to discuss Kazan’s preparations for three FISU-related events scheduled for this September.
Also attending the meeting were Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Tatarstan’s Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism Rafis Burganov, Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing of the Republic of Tatarstan Irek Fayzullin, Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Vladimir Leonov, FISU 1st Vice President and RSSU President Oleg Matytsin, FISU Director for the Summer Universiade Marc Vandenplas.
The FISU delegation is back in Kazan to check on preparations for three FISU-related official events to be held this autumn, among them the FISU Executive Committee Meeting, FISU Extraordinary General Assembly and FISU GALA.
The visit will last four days and will see the delegates meet with functional area representatives of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, and also staff responsible for the management of the FISU General Assembly and FISU GALA. A programme of events will be approved based on the results of these meetings. We shall remind that the FISU GALA, a brainchild of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, will be held for the first time in the history of FISU and honour the best in university sports: top athletes, coaches, contributors to university sports movement and promoters of the Universiade brand.
The FISU officials will also receive updates on the progress made in preparing for the three WUCs (Canoe Sprint, Rowing and Shooting Sport) which are due to take place in Kazan in August-September 2012 to test the venues and workforce readiness ahead of the 2013 Games.
