Already 60 Countries confirm their Participation in 27th Summer Universiade

KAZAN – 60 countries have already expressed readiness to compete at the 2013 Summer Universiade in the city of Kazan. The majority of them – 36 nations – applied online whereas the rest of them sent completed general entry forms by mail.

As informed earlier, on July 6th, when Kazan marked one year to go to the Opening Ceremony of the 2013 Summer Universiade, 205 countries received invitations from the OC to the largest international university sports competitions in the history of FISU scheduled to be held in the sports capital of Russia next summer. The invitations were signed by Igor Shuvalov, Chairman of the Kazan 2013 Organising Committee and 1st Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation; Claude-Louis Gallien, President of FISU; Oleg Matytsin, President of the Russian Student Sports Union, and were issued both to the NUSF members and non-members to FISU. As of today, it’s possible to predict that the 2013 Summer Universiade will bring together around 170 nations and the total number of athletes and officials that will come to Kazan for the Games will reach record levels – 13,500 people. The largest delegations – up to 500 athletes and more – are expected from such sporting nations as the USA, Canada, China and Great Britain. These countries already submitted general entry forms, as did Ukraine, Italy, Pakistan, Uruguay, New Zealand, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Nigeria and many others. The final list of the nations participating in the 2013 Summer Universiade will be available on January 6th, 2013, the deadline for applications. The number of participants on a team and rosters will be announced not later than one month before the start of the Games.
