KAZAN – Cooperation between the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism was discussed last week at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan. For the period of the 27th Summer Universiade, from July 6th to 17th, 2013, all sports facilities of the Volga Region State Academy will be used as Games competition venues.
1st Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Azat Kadyrov delivered a report on the venues’ readiness and admitted that the 2012 FISU World University Championships during which two venues of the Volga Region Academy – Tennis Academy and Rowing Centre – were used, revealed that the sports facilities, as well as its staff, are fully ready to host high-profile sporting events. For his part, Ranko Tepavcevic, Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, stressed the importance of a well-coordinated interaction between all services for the period of the multi-sports university competitions.
“The Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism which was established under the Kazan 2013 Legacy programme is the only institution of higher education whose sports facilities will host both test events and major Universiade tournaments,” said Ilshat Faizullin, Pro-rector for Social and Administrative Work. “Besides, favourable location of our sports venues within close proximity to the Universiade Village will ensure a strong turnout of fans and spectators who will come to support their team during the events. All this requires that we must be all set for the Universiade tournaments in terms of venue readiness and also ensure that all services and structural subdivisions and its sports venues meet the necessary requirements. It will be a useful experience for the academy and our employees and students will benefit from it.”
Six venues of the Volga Region Academy are scheduled to play host to 2013 Summer Universiade tournaments: Tennis Academy (tennis and badminton), Rowing Centre (rowing, canoe sprint and open water swimming), Gymnastics Centre (rhythmic and artistic gymnastics), Burevestnik Swimming Pool (water polo finals), Zilant Sports Complex (men’s volleyball qualifying rounds), Aquatics Palace (swimming, synchronised swimming and diving). The academy’s track and field stadium will serve as a training venue during the Games.
Until late October experts of the Volga Region Academy and Kazan 2013 OC will hold a number of meetings at the sports venues of the academy to take a detailed look at the current problematic issues and devise solutions to them.
