FASU President Ralethe consults with Head of LOC and President of TISAN Werner Jeffery
WINDHOEK – With less than 44 days to the beginning of the 6th FASU Games, 15 countries have confirmed participation in these Games this December 2012, scheduled to be held at the University of Namibia Windhoek, Namibia from 15th – 22nd. These Include Algeria, Botswana, Cameroon, Comoros, Congo, DRC, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This has already superseded the number of countries that Participated in the 5th FASU Games (14) held in 2008 at Makerere University Kampala, Uganda. More countries are expected to submit entries in the next 14 days.
Though the games were expected to record a lower attendance of countries due a late change of venue from Dakar, Senegal to Windhoek, Namibia, nations have not been deterred and are gearing up for the continental show piece. The host has done a lot in this short period to ensure that facilities are booked and prepared for the games. All countries contacted by the secretariat are training hard to end the dominance of South Africa at these games. It should be noted that South Africa has emerged as overall champion at the previous two editions of the Games (4th & 5th).
FISU and EUSA Vice-President Mr. Leonz Eder, FISU Assessors Mr. Omar Al Hai and Mr. CHEN Tai-Cheng are among the Members of the International University Sports movement that shall grace the games and the FASU General Assembly Scheduled for 16th December 2012.
“We appreciate all the efforts of the Local Organizing Committee, under the leadership of Mr. Werner Jeffery the president of TISAN (Tertiary Institutes Sports Associations of Namibia). We therefore rally the rest of Africa to participate in these solidarity games” Said Ms Peninnah A. Kabenge, the FASU Secretary General.
