KAZAN/EKATERINBURG – An inter-university volunteer recruitment centre opens in Ekaterinburg on Thursday, November 31, as the recruitment drive for students willing to be part of the 27th Summer Universiade continues apace. According to head of the centre Alexander Antimonov, the first candidates will be interviewed on the very day of the opening ceremony.
The event will be attended by Minister of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the Sverdlovsk Region Leonid Rapoport and famous Russian biathlete Sergey Chepikov who is also a Kazan 2013 Ambassador. It’s worth noting that the recruitment centre will be located within the Central Stadium.
“The Central Stadium of Ekaterinburg is the only facility in the region which attracts volunteers to help stage mass sporting events,” said the venue’s director general Vadim Vorobyev. “In summer 2011, just before the stadium was re-opened after an extensive renovation, we put together a team of volunteers which excellently completes the tasks at hand. Our cooperation continues for the second year and I’m confident that most active volunteers of the Central Stadium will be selected and head to the Kazan Universiade next summer!”
Up to 400 volunteers of the Sverdlovsk Region will be sent to Kazan. They are expected to contribute to a successful delivery of the biggest multi-sport competition in the FISU world through volunteering at Universiade tournaments across such sports as football, basketball, water polo, Greco-Roman wrestling and belt wrestling. Another part of these volunteers will be assigned a role as attachés for national teams and the FISU Family and carry out voluntary service at the Universiade Village and Kazan 2013 Cultural Park.
