EILAT – Last night the 3rd World University Weightlifting Championship in Eilat, Israel kicked-off with the opening ceremony.
About 300 athletes and officials from 35 countries witnessed a wonderful evening. The ceremony was opened with a delegations march and followed by warm words of welcome by FISU and OC officials.
Dr. Uri Sheffer, CEO of the Israel Sports Authority, Mr. Arie Rozenzweig, Chairman of Academics Sports Association, Adrian Gagea, FISU board member, Dr. Yerucham Barak, chairman of the organizing committee and Meir Izhak Halevy, Head of Eilat, the hosting city, welcomed the athletes.
Dr. Sheffer remarked the importance of Sport as bridge between people and cultures.
Among the athletes several Olympic and World Class lifters are present, such as Wan Jeang Sik from South Korea (age 23, 7th place in London Olympic Games).
The competitions will start today November 6th and last until Friday November 9th.
