Dakar Rally Participant Ambassador for 2015 WU

GRANADA – Miguel Puertas will be an ambassador for the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada during his participation in the upcoming Dakar Rally, which starts on 5 January 2013 in Peru.

This will be Puertas’ eighth appearance in the legendary rally, and he wants to compete in 10 editions. The Granada citizen has agreed to promote the image of the Universiade during the rally.

‘The 2015 Winter Universiade starts its promotion and it is a project of Granada. The idea is to spread the values of this event. I am delighted with this opportunity and I would like that in 2015, when the Games are hosted in my city, it matches the fulfillment of my goal – to complete in 10 editions of the Dakar Rally. Also, I’m very attached to promote sporting values and therefore, I believe that the Universiade is a good opportunity to do so’, the racer explained.

Before Puertas’ departure for Peru, the CEO of the Universiade, Aurelio Ureña, met with the rally racer. ‘We are grateful to Miguel for this beautiful gesture to promote the Granada Universiade. We need all possible support to spread the image of the Universiade and Miguel’s initiative is very valuable to us. We will be very attentive for his participation in the rally and wish him luck in his eighth edition’, Ureña commented.
