Tatarstan Government Officials inspect Pace of Construction Work at Universiade Venues

8 January 2013

KAZANPrime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov and Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspected the construction of sports venues for the 27th Summer Universiade.

The inspection team also included Deputy Prime Minister Shamil Gafarov, Tatarstan’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Marat Akhmetov, Tatarstan’s Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Irek Faizullin, Tatarstan’s Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism Rafis Burganov, and Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Vladimir Leonov.

Construction of the two largest sports facilities of the 2013 Summer Universiade – the Aquatics Palace and the 45,000-seat football stadium – is progressing according to plan.

According to information provided by Rafis Burganov, the builders have now started tiling the swimming pools at the Aquatics Palace. The work must be completed by the end of the month, as after that special hydraulic equipment will be installed to help adjust the swimming pool depth. This will enable the use of the swimming pools by children and create conditions for holding competitions in various water sports.

At the football stadium, the government officials inspected the hallways, locker rooms, security guards’ rooms, a conference hall (with a ruby-coloured interior) and toured the stadium’s playing field.

The builders have assured that all the work is going in accordance with the established schedules.
