TRENTO – 17 research projects were presented by professors or researchers of the University of Trento, dealing with all research areas connected with the Trentino 2013 Winter Universiade. The Universiade will be the greatest Italian sports event in 2013 and will involve 3,000 athletes from more than 60 countries, competing in 18 sports disciplines, to win 93 medals.
The total amount of the call is 100,000 € and the total cost of the single projects may not exceed 30,000 € per activity, which need to be carried out from 15 January and 30 November 2013.
The Universiade is organized by an Organizing Committee, formed by the Autonomous Province of Trento and the University of Trento. The Universiade is different from other multi-sports event. Indeed, it is not only a sports event but also an opportunity to debate on the topics of university sports and its effects on teaching and research activities. Two main initiatives will be devoted to these topics: an international conference on a specific topic decided by the host city and a series of research projects relevant for the event.
The conference will be “University Sport: Inspiring Innovation”, to be held on 9 and 10 December 2013. This conference will deal with the relationship between sports and innovation, from three different viewpoints: university sports as a research engine for the development of innovative product, as a source of inspiration for new teaching methodologies and as an opportunity for new careers.
Creativity is a pre-requisite of all projects. Project ideas deal with elements of the event, such as the project “Zero Emission Universiade” or more general aspects connected with research, such as doping, the weight of sports equipment and ski wax.
