2015 Winter Universiade: Volunteer Campaign launched and 1st Ambassadors appointed

18 February 2013

GRANADA The Organising Committee of Granada 2015 has officially launched its Volunteer Recruitment Campaign aiming at more than 1,000 volunteers. Present at the launch which was hosted at the ‘Fundación Agua Granada’ were City Mayor José Torres Hurtado and University rector Francisco González Lodeiro, while the County Council was represented by its third vice-president, José María Guadalupe, with the delegate of the Ministry of Culture and Sport, Ana Gamez. They were joined by the CEO of the Universiade, Aurelio Ureña.

At the launch, athletes María José Rienda and Miguel Puertas received a certificate qualifying them as ambassadors of Granada 2015. ‘With the support of your image of perseverance and dedication to sport, we will enhance the image of the Universiade’, Aurelio Ureña said. The CEO of Granada 2015 also put the spotlight on Martha and Paul, the very first two enlisted WU volunteers. ‘They were ahead of all the volunteer promotion and were the first to apply. With only a single communication effort in October, we already have about 500 requests for volunteering at the Universiade, with many coming from a long list of countries such as Russia, Finland, Estonia, South America and many others. And a strong campaign has yet to start’, Ureña added. He also expressed that volunteering in sport is very much involved with social volunteering and stressed the intention of the OC to raise awareness towards the underprivileged through various programmes.

On the occasion, a promotional video was launched as well, which can be watched here.
