BUSF announces Team Belgium for Kazan

BRUSSELS Today, June 11th, the Belgian University Sports Federation (BUSF) announced its team for the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan during a press conference at the Château de la Solitude, the headquarters of FIDSU, the Foundation for the Development of University Sport in Brussels.

‘This is the biggest delegation ever BUSF is sending to the Universiade’, Head of Delegation Dieter Theylaert explained. The 81 persons-strong delegation (55 athletes and 26 officials) will bring together student-athletes competing in 11 of the 27sport at the Kazan Universiade.

‘I am extremely pleased that we will bring a men’s water polo team and a men’s rugby 7s team to the games’, Deputy Head of Delegation Cédric Baudson said. ‘It’s been a while since Belgium participated in the team sports and it’s wonderful that we have two teams competing in Kazan.’ As far as the individual sports are concerned, the Belgian athletes will participate in athletics, badminton, boxing, fencing, judo, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, rowing, table tennis and weightlifting.

FISU Director for the Summer Universiade Marc Vandenplas presented the competition venues were the athletes will perform and Regina Valeeva from Belgo-Tatar cultural organisation ‘Tatars in Belgium’ gave a short introduction of the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. This cultural organisation will be present in Kazan during the Universiade cheering for the Belgians.
