OKTYABRSKY – The Universiade Torch Relay has finally reached the Republic of Tatarstan on June 19th. The town of Oktyabrsky, located on the border of two republics, saw a solemn handover of the Flame from Bashkiria (the Torch Relay passed through its capital city, Ufa, the day before) to Tatarstan.
The ceremony was attended by Permanent Representative of Tatarstan in Bashkortostan Albert Maksyutov, Head of the Administration of the city of Oktyabrsky Sergey Molchanov, Head of the Bavlinsky Municipal District of Tatarstan Albert Khabibullin, President of the Russian Powerlifting Federation Aleksandr Efimov.
“Yesterday the Torch Relay travelled through Ufa. Today the Universiade Flame concludes its journey across regions of Russia and its march through the Republic of Tatarstan begins. We witness a historic moment – the handover of the Universiade Flame to the Republic of Tatarstan. We are pleased that our city has taken part in this handover and the warmth of the Flame will remain in the hearts of the people of Oktyabrsky,” said Sergey Molchanov.
“Today we attend the event that cements the friendship between two brotherly republics: right before our very eyes the Universiade Flame was handed over to Tatarstan which will pretty soon – on July 6 – host the Games Opening Ceremony,” said Albert Maksyutov. “Tatarstan is famous for its athletic achievements and truly deserves to play host to the Universiade. I will note one thing only: this celebration of youth and sports is held not only for residents of Tatarstan but for all Russian people as well.”
Residents of three municipal districts of Tatarstan will welcome the Universiade Flame: next the main symbol of the Universiade will pass through Bavly, Urussu and Bugulma.
