First flag raising ceremony in the Athletes Village

KAZAN –Today, July 1st, the first Flag Raising Ceremony took place in the Athletes’ Village. A tradition to welcome each delegation and confirm its settlement into the Village, which for a fortnight will be their home.  The inaugural ceremony was in honor of the host country, Russia.

The ceremony has begun with Russian and Tatar national dances. Then Oleg Matytsin , 1st Vice President of FISU,  President of the Russian Student Sport Union (RSSU), Fedor Emeliyanenko, President of the MMA League of Russia, Farid Abdulganiev, Mayor of the Universiade Village and Rafis Burganov, Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan took the floor to wish athletes plenty of brilliant victories and supporters  unforgettable emotions.

“This Universiade is one of the largest sport events in the world and the most important youth adventure” said Rafis Burganov. In his turn, Oleg Matytsin, thanked all the organizers and participants of the Universiade. He also said that it was an honor for Russia to see his flag up before the others. He welcomed Russian athletes and wished them pleasant stay.

The ceremony ended with the russian flag raising and the national Anthem of Russia.
