KAZAN – The collections of two museums of Tatarstan have been concurrently replenished by exclusive exhibits from the history of the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan. From now on, one of the central places in the exhibitions dedicated to the Kazan Universiade will be occupied by a set of Universiade medals. The official ceremonies of transferring the exhibits were held in the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan and in the Sport Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan. The ceremonies were attended by Larisa Sulima, Chief of Staff – Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate.

“All of these items should be accessible to the museum’s visitors, the people of the Republic. They are a very important part of the legacy of the Kazan Universiade. The National Museum is a key exhibition platform of Tatarstan. It introduces its visitors to the history, culture and ancient traditions of our hospitable land. And the Universiade is part of this history now. We recall it with nostalgia, and we want it to remain in our memory forever. It feels nice that now we can recall, share the experience and talk about how the Games were organised. We will pass our knowledge on to the next generations”, emphasised Larisa Sulima.
Visitors to the museums will also be able to see samples of the uniforms of the Universiade Organising Committee’s representatives, including the gear worn by judges and referees, volunteers and Games personnel. Some printed materials have also been added to the exhibition: brochures and reference books about the city and the Republic as a whole, the cultural and sports programme of the Games. And in the near future, the museums are also going to receive the video films that were used as a vibrant illustration of the days of the Universiade.
“Today’s addition to our collection is another wonderful present for us. The National Museum took an active part in the Cultural Universiade project, and now it is documenting all the events that took place. We need exhibits very much. They are part of a larger history which the city, the region and the country have in common”, noted Natalya Bugrova, Acting Director General of the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan.
It is noteworthy that the exhibits associated with the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan are currently kept not only in the museums of Tatarstan. They are also displayed in the museums of the partner universities of the Universiade in Russia’s regions – athletes from different cities of Russia have already handed some of their trophies that they won at the Games to the collections of the museums.
