CSU Meeting in Granada

GRANADA This Saturday, 19 October, 2013, the FISU Supervision Committee for the Winter Universiade travelled to Granada, Spain, host city of the 27th Winter Universiade in 2015 for an inspection visit and work meeting. Led by Kairis ULP, Chair of the CSU Winter, the group consisted of Marian Dymalski, Vice- Chairman of the CSU Winter; Roger Roth, member of the Winter CSU; Shen Zhen, member of the CSU Winter; Robert Philip, Vice- President of the ITC; Milan Augustin, Director of the Winter Universiade; Laurent Briel, Director of Development; Jiho Kim, Executive Assistant of the Department of the Winter Universiade; Paola Forni, Assistant Department Winter Universiade and Mirjana Cvijanovic, IT consultant.

The day began with a meeting that took place in the Congress Centre of Granada in the presence of members of the Organizing Committee of the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada. The Director General of the Granada OC and Member of the FISU Executive Committee David Cabello initially welcomed the delegation of FISU, followed by CSU Chair Kairis ULP, who spoke on behalf of the FISU delegation and thanked the Granada OC for its hospitality.

The OC then presented its ‘Master Plan’ and addressed many issues, such as human resources , volunteering, transport plans, the status of various sports facilities, sponsoring, the budget, promotion, communication and accreditation. After each presentation a session of ‘questions & answers’ was foreseen.

The day continued with a tour of the Granada Congress Centre. Here the International Broadcast Centre, the Accreditation Centre and the General Management of the OC and FISU will be located during the games in 2015.

The members of the FISU delegation then attended a presentation on the cultural programme that will be implemented during the Universiade.

In the evening, the delegation participated in the ‘Granada White Nights’. This cultural activity has enabled them to discover the rich architecture and museums of Granada, exceptionally open to the public throughout the evening.

The second day, the FISU CSU delegation made inspection visits to different hotels that can be used during the Universiade. The day was marked by a formal meeting with the Mayor of Granada; OC President José Torres Hurtado; OC VicePresident Francisco Gonzalez Lodeiro and President of the Royal Spanish Federation of Winter Sports Eduardo Roldan, representing the authorities of the city of Granada. The meeting, at which the CSU expressed its concern about the future course of the Universiade in Granada, was also held in the Granada Congress Center.

The CSU Inspection Visit will continue today, 21 and tomorrow 22 October with visits to the sport facilities in the Sierra Nevada (skiing, snowboarding and freestyle skiing) in the morning and Antequera (figure skating and short track speed skating) in the afternoon. The FISU delegates will also have the opportunity to meet with the authorities of the Sierra Nevada. The last day will host workshops on the various functional areas as well as a wrap-up meeting between the CSU and the Granada OC.
