Brasilia fulfills Universiade Attribution Contract

LAUSANNE – During the 26^th Winter Universiade in Trentino, the FISU Executive Committee met for the last time in 2013 and at that meeting the Brazilian University Sport Association (CBDU), headed by its President Luciano Cabral, FISU Vice-President, delivered the final version of the attribution contract of Brasília (Federal District Capital) as the host city of the 30^th Summer Universiade 2019.

“We have concluded all the attribution procedures. From now on we will work hard to make a historical edition of the Universiade”, commented Luciano.

Signing the documentConfirming the commitment of the local government within the games’ organization, the governor of the Federal District, Agnelo Queiroz, also signed the document in Portuguese with the oath translated into English.

After 50 years, the Universiade returns to the southern hemisphere. The last time was in 1963, also in Brasil, in the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul (RS).

“On average, a student spends four years at the university. Since the Universiade in Porte Alegre, we have past generations that have lost the contact with the university sport movement around the world. We need to rescue the legacy of the Porto Alegre Universiade, in order to show its importance and strengthen university sport in Brazil as a motor in the education of professionals with an incentive towards the sporting culture and also as a transition platform from student-athletes to Olympians”, explained Luciano Cabral.

For the 30^th edition of the Summer Universiade in Brasília, more than 10,000 participants (women and men) from more than 150 countries are expected to compete in 18 different sports.
