2015 Winter Universiade: Change of Location for Nordic Skiing and Biathlon Events

5 February 2014

LAUSANNE – As per the mandate of the FISU Executive Committee, the FISU Steering Committee approved to move the Nordic Skiing and Biathlon events of the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada (ESP) to Strbske Pleso and Osrblie (SVK). This decision has been taken to anticipate the difficulties faced by the Granada 2015 Organising Committee in hosting these particular events.

FISU therefore expresses its deepest thanks to the Slovak University Sports Association (SAUS) for its full support in hosting these competitions. It is important to recall that Strbske Pleso already hosted two successful editions of the Winter Universiade, i.e. in 1987 and 1999.

FISU has no doubt that SAUS will deliver excellent events. Thanks to its collaboration, the FISU student-athletes will be able to benefit from a complete university winter sports programme in 2015.

As for the competition dates, they are still under discussion. However, these competitions tend to be held at the end of January 2015, prior to the Opening Ceremony of the 27th Winter Universiade in Granada on 4 February 2015.

FISU fully realises the implications that this recent decision may have on the management and logistical aspects of its Member Association delegations’ participation. Therefore, FISU will do its utmost to provide high-quality games for its student-athletes.
