NUSFU President & FISU Assessor Peninnah Kabenge guides the inspection team
ENTEBBE – On 17 February 2014, a joint technical team of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) conducted a site visit of the venues for the upcoming 19th World University Cross-Country Championship to make sure all the preparations were in conformity with the set standards. The team headed by Mr. David Okeyo, the IAAF Technical Delegate from Kenya, included CAA General Secretary Mr. Lamine Faty from Senegal and CAA Council member Dr. Siddig Ibrahim from Sudan.
The one day exercise, which saw the team inspect the proposed track at the Entebbe golf course and accommodation venue at the Imperial Botanical Hotel, was successful following the good reports received from the inspection team. “The competition venue has a naturally challenging and beautiful track. I have no doubt this shall be a very interesting and successful event”, said IAAF’s David Okeyo. “As CAA, we are happy with the preparations and the fact that the National University Sports federation is working together with the Uganda Athletics Federation to ensure excellence of both the 3rd Africa Cross-Country Championship, and this 19th World University Championship, which are separated by one week. We shall support NUSFU in any way possible”, said Lamine Faty, the CAA General Secretary.
Peninnah Kabenge, the President of NUSFU and FISU Assessor who is also Vice President of the LOC assured the team that Uganda was distained the set a national participation history at the championship. 31 countries have so far confirmed participation passing the current record of 25 countries. All the 54 African Countries are expected to confirm participation by the end of February.
