ENTEBBE Further to the races held on Saturday morning, 22 March, the 19th World University Cross Country Championship 2014 came to an end at night with the Closing Ceremony. Attended by the mayor of the city of Entebbe as well as the president of the Uganda Athletics Federation, this ceremony was also the occasion for the host city of the next edition, the 20th World University Cross Country Championship in Cassino (ITA) to present its project and to invite all participants to be present once again in 2016. It was also the moment for Mauro Nasciuti (CUSI) and Ciro Attaianese, rector of the University of Cassino to receive the FISU Flag.

This edition of the WUC Cross Country concludes on a positive feeling as well as excellent statistics. With 18 participating countries coming from the five continents including 8 African countries – a WUC record – and medals distributed to three different continents, the universality of cross country is once again demonstrated. In total, 75 universities were represented during this event including some famous names such as Mc Master University (CAN), Monash University (AUS) but also Lausanne University (SUI) and of course the local Kampala University. This Championship was also a historical one for two countries, France becoming the last country to have attended all editions of the WUC Cross Country since its creation in 1978 and Oman having for the first time participated in the event and to an event in Africa in general.

FISU hopes all those participants will be present in Cassino in two years and informs all participants that they can find the event’s pictures on the FISU social media platforms.
