BRASILIA – 26 days to go until the 12th World University Triathlon Championship begins in Brasília, Brazil. CBDU and FISU are working together to organize the 12th edition of this championship to be held in the Federal Capital of Brazil, on 20 April. The official track of the event is already defined. While competing, the students-athletes will have the privilege of enjoying two famous landscapes of Brasília, the JK Bridge and Paranoá Lake.
The competition will be divided in three phases, starting with the swimming race of 1,500 meters in the Paranoá Lake. Then a bike course of 40 km (4 laps of 10 km) awaits crossing over the JK Bridge and to end the event, all the tri-athletes will have to finish a 10km street race.
Around 100 athletes are expected from 17 registered countries. This will be the second FISU WUC in 2014 and the first international FISU competition held in Brazil this year. Three more will be staged in 2014, i.e. the 6th WUC Rugby 7, from 7 to 10 August in São José dos Campos (São Paulo); the 2nd WUC Basketball 3×3, from 18 to 21 September in Salvador (Bahia) and the International Beach Games, in Florianopolis (Santa Catarina) from 25 to 29 November.
“The CBDU is excited about the responsibility to organize all these WUCs in Brazil, especially the Triathlon. It will work as a training and experience gain for all of us who will be working on the organisation of the 30th Summer Universiade in Brasília in 2019”, highlighted Luciano Cabral, CBDU President and FISU Vice-President.
