GWANGJU – FISU is carrying out a 3-day seminar, from 2 to 4 April for the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade on the overall aspects of preparation for the event.

The FISU Seminar was hosted by FISU for the organisers of the Universiade in order to pass on the knowledge and know-how of successful games operations, and this is the first seminar held since the launch of the Gwangju Universiade Organising Committee (GUOC).

Seminar speakers include Alan Shaw, event planning expert with more than 30 years of experience in more than 100 sporting events including 11 Olympics; Lisa Hindson, IOC advisor for games planning; Patrick Vajda, expert in risk management and insurance placement for large sporting events; Marc Vandenplas, Summer Universiade Director; Lawrence Rink, FISU CM Chair and other FISU staff from the General Secretariat.

The 14 areas that will be covered with in-depth lectures and discussions are Games Planning and Operational Readiness, Venue Management, Command and Control, Risk Management, Catering, Volunteers, Transportation, Medical Assistance and Doping Control, Human Resources, Accommodation, Athletes’ Village, Security, and other vital fields related to games operation.

Through this seminar, not only will the members of the GUOC have the opportunity to get a better understanding on each functional area but also a chance to check and supplement on the preparations that have been made so far.

Kim Yoon Suk, the Secretary General of GUOC, stated, “With the Gwangju Universiade around 460 days left to go, this seminar will be a great opportunity for the organisers of the Gwangju Universiade to receive practical knowledge for the operation of the Universiade from FISU and world renown sports experts.”
