LAUSANNE – It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Mr. Chang Chul Hi, former FISU Technical Delegate for Short Track, aged 86 years.
Mr. Chang Chul Hi was appointed as Technical Delegate in 1995, while he held this position for the first time at the Winter Universiade in Muju-Chonju in 1997, which was held in his home country Korea. Being a very popular sport in Korea, Mr. Chang further developed short track within FISU. Mr. Chang remained Technical Delegate for Short Track until the 2011 Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey.
Mr. Chang Chul Hi was well-known within the FISU Family. Appreciated by all for his kindness and his experience, he was also a multi-faceted man who had worked extensively for the development of tourism in his country.
It would be futile to try to list here all the awards received by Mr. Chang Chul Hi throughout his life as they were numerous. Similarly, he held countless positions in various institutions related to tourism in Korea.
In university sports, he was President of the Korean University Skating Union. He headed the Korean delegation as Chef de Mission at the Winter Universiades in 1997 (Muju-Chonju) and 2001 (Zakopane, Poland). He was also an advisor to the Korean University Sport Board, the Korean NUSF.
Mr.Chang was also a strong advocate of Gwangju’s candidature to host the 2015 Summer Universiade.
