Team Switzerland marches in at the Opening Ceremony
CRANS-MONTANA – Late Sunday evening, 22 June, after heavy rainfall, luckily the Valais sky cleared to allow the 15th World University Golf Championship to officially open with the traditional FISU Opening Ceremony.
After the speeches of OC President Pierre Bruchez and FISU EC member Kemal Tamer, it was Jean-Michel Cina, President of the State Council, who formally opened the 15th edition of this FISU World University Championship in the gardens of the ‘Grand Hotel du Golf et Palace’ in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.
All registered teams were present with their 144 male and female players accompanied by
the heads of delegations, coaches and trainers. After the 50th Mémorial Olivier
Barras, the ‘Ballesteros’ course will host, from Tuesday to Friday, its second event. This time on a completely redesigned course for the FISU event.
Led by the band ‘Echo des Bois’ and folk group ‘lè Mayintson dè la Noblya Contra’, the Opening Ceremony showcased the Swiss folklore to the international guests.
The weather forecast announces mild weather this week which will allow many young players to show their best, so one day they will conquer the top tables of the biggest golf tournaments on the five continents.
