CRANS-MONTANA – Every day there is an exceptional performance in Crans-Montana for the 15th WUC Golf. After a hole in one Wednesday by a Japanese golfer, it’s Mexico and one of its golfers, Gerardo Ruiz who were on the spotlight in this third round. Indeed, with a card of 64, 8 under the par, the Mexican athlete proved that the WUC welcomes not only excellent students but also top athletes. Six birdies, one eagle helped Ruiz take the lead in the end of this third round with a score of 207, (-9). He is closely followed by the world number 9, Malaysian athlete Gavin Green and world number 39, Emilio Cuartero (ESP). In the team competition, Spain and Japan seem to have secured a medal spot with -13 and -7 scores but the game for the bronze will feature not less than four contending teams. Indeed Canada (+2), Ireland (+2), Malaysia (+3) and France (+5) will all be serious contenders for the podium.
In the women’s competition, Tiffany Chan is still leading with a third round score of -3 (-8 in total) but her direct opponent for the title, Marta Sanz (ESP) got closer with a score of -4 (-7 in total). Just behind them is Seira Oki (-3/-6) while four other athletes are currently under the par and can expect to fight for the podium. In the team competition, the title seems within the reach of Spain with a current score of -11 while the USA have a comfortable margin for the silver medal (-6). The bronze medal will be the alibi to an exciting last day with Japan, Czech Republic and Mexico still in competition with respective scores of -1, +2 and +2.
