FISU Seminar concludes in Almaty

ALMATY – The three-day FISU Seminar for the 2017 Winter Universiade hosted by FISU and the Organizing Committee of the 28th Winter Universiade has concluded on October 30th in Almaty.

The Seminar was focusing on providing all attendants an overview of the fields specifically related to the organisation and management of a Winter Universiade. Over 80 participants, including all levels of government as well as business and sports leaders had the opportunity to hear a wide variety of topics, from a general presentation of FISU to the functionalities related to sports event management, safety control, financial obligations, protocol and communication at FISU events,  amongst many other interesting and in-depth presentations.

Led by the FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond the first day session gave Almaty and Krasnoyarsk Organizing Committees’ teams and their partners a general overview of the student sports development and FISU worldwide activity. Further, Winter Universiade Director Milan Augustin proceeded with a WU presentation and shared advice on managing the games, the key milestones that occur during the lifecycle of an OC and the key factors to be looked at during preparation period. After that the seminar continued with round-table discussions, question and answer sessions organised for various OC department representatives and delegates.

The second day consisted of more detailed panel sessions related to event planning activities. Keeping in mind key learnings from the previous day, spirited discussions among all participants took place. The most prominent questions highlighted during the day were WU legacy, the key control centre’s operation and functional areas’ responsibilities.

Summing up the seminar on the third day, Ilya Urazakov, the State Fund «Universiade Almaty 2017» Director said: «Our discussions with the FISU team were extremely productive and we are looking forward with renewed motivation and enthusiasm to work closely with the FISU Family and all concerned members to ensure that the Almaty Winter Universiade will take its place on a worldwide map of students sports».  He also added that organizing of such level of event is a complex undertaking, which requires great teamwork and a strong partnership from all parties involved, so we were pleased with the high level of collaboration from all participants of the seminar.
