GUOC 2015 steps up its Preparations

5 November 2014

GWANGJU – The 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC 2015) put its experience gained at the Incheon Asian Games into further practice.

Recently, a meeting was held with the safety related organizations to discuss the successful delivery of the Games and the cooperation of the safety related agencies. The main topics discussed included counter-terrorism measures, security and traffic control, fire safety support plans, venue facilities security, food and beverages control, immigration and customs support, and other cooperation matters. Meanwhile, the organizing committee is preparing for all sorts of emergencies by producing safety measures for every sort of situation and action plan for on-site training, and will continue to supplement these materials. Next June, a comprehensive counter-terrorism training for the athletes’ village as well as the opening and closing ceremonies will take place.

GUOC 2015 has also begun conducting on-site inspections of all 70 competition venues, beginning on 4 November with the World Cup Stadium, which will be the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the athletic competitions. These inspections will continue to take place until the end of the year.

For these inspections, the relevant staffs and officials for each sport will inspect the on-site preparations being made at each venue. During the inspections, the OC plans to thoroughly prepare according to the needs of each competition by identifying the problematic issues in each field and conducting on-site discussions for resolutions between experts and staff.

GUOC 2015 will convert the organization into an on-venue system in January 2015, while volunteers and working staff will expand in multiple stages.
