FISU President Gallien (l) with the local authorities and some volunteers
GRANADA – There is less than 24 hours before the 2nd half of the 2015 Winter Universiade is underway.
The official Universiade flag was hoisted up on 2 February in centric Puerta Real in Granada.
Joining the Granada volunteers who hoisted the flag, was the city’s mayor José Torres Hurtado and FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien.
During Gallien’s brief speech before the flag raising he thanked everybody who is taking part in the games, whether it be students, volunteers or staff.
“People have worked a lot,” he said. “It will be great.”
The university’s orchestra filled the air with their music after the speeches were made, by playing both the FISU anthem and the Granada city anthem with a variety of instruments.
And together with Uggi, the mascot, the assembly gave the 2015 Granada Winter Universiade a happy beginning.
“We had very good success in Slovakia, and I’m sure now this will be a very, very good Universiade [in Granada],” said Claude-Louis Gallien, President of FISU. “If students are happy then I am happy.”
