KRANOYARSK – On March 2, the FISU Winter Universiade International Technical Committee arrived in Krasnoyarsk in order to evaluate technical preparation of the venues, exactly 4 years before the Universiade 2019.
The delegation consists of 18 people, headed by Oleg Matytsin, FISU First Vice President, Eric Saintrond, FISU General Secretary / CEO and Roger Roth, Chair of the FISU International Technical Committee. The delegation also includes members of the Winter Universiade department, the Vice-Chairman of the Medical Committee and FISU Technical Delegates, responsible for all sports currently included in the program of the Krasnoyarsk Universiade.
“This was the perfect timing for the visit of the FISU WU-CTI. As you know, the Universiade will take place from 2 to 12 March 2019. So, the representatives of FISU have the opportunity to evaluate the climate conditions and the venues which will be used for the WU. Some of them are still on projecting phase and some of them must be improved to reach FIS and ISF standards. Speaking about the visit, I am sure that we will work productively and obtain the necessary recommendations for further processing. All those experts have a great experience”, said General Director of the Executive Directorate of the Universiade-2019 Maxim Urazov.
The delegation’s schedule will be quite busy: it’s necessary to visit all the venues of future Universiade. Moreover, they will have to evaluate plans and facilities according to needs of athletes, judges, spectators, organizers and technical staff. In addition, much attention will be paid to the preparation of the sport program.

“This visit is very important for us. FISU experts will be able to give us recommendations about what is necessary to improve or change. It concerns not only existing sports facilities, but also those that we still have to build. We plan to discuss and to make the first draft of competition program and define logistic plan”, said the Minister of Sport of Krasnoyarsk region Sergey Alekseev.
On March 3, in the morning, there was the first meeting between FISU CTI and representatives of ministries, region’s departments, Executive Directorate of the 2019 WU, leaders of sport institutions, regional sports federations and sports managers of the Organizing Committee. During the presentation, raised issues were engineering and construction of the Universiade, development of transport infrastructure and improvement of the city, sports facilities and Legacy of the Universiade, Business Involvement and general positioning of international events in the Krasnoyarsk region. “This is an event of great importance for the country, the region and the city, especially regarding the Universiade’s legacy – those sports facilities will stay and will be used after those university games. The positive experience of Kazan indicates the great potential of Russia in youth projects. Universiade should be the magnet that attracts not only sporting events, but also other social and cultural projects“, said Oleg Matytsin.
In the afternoon, there was a meeting including representatives of youth movements in the extreme sports center “Sporteks”. They presented different programs, popular among young generations.
The members of FISU CTI shared their first impressions about Krasnoyarsk. “The first impression is very pleasant”, said the Chairman of FISU CTI of Roger Roth. “There’s still a lot of work to be done. We came here to see what has been changed since we signed the agreements, to see how the process of engineering and construction is going, to meet with sports managers and to evaluate their willingness and ability to perform the tasks”.
“Today we welcome people who have organized international events. It is very important that they come now. We have to take advantage of their experience”, said Executive Director of Universiade-2019 Maxim Urazov.
