2019 WU Village Concept presented to FISU Delegates

5 March 2015

KRASNOYARSK – Today, 5 March, the concept of the Universiade Village was presented to representatives of FISU on the campus of the Federal University of Siberia, as part of the inspection visit of the FISU International Technical Committee for the Winter Universiade.

As explained by Eugene Vaganov, the rector of the Siberian Federal University, engineers have planned this project based on four basic principles: simplicity, versatility, functionality and comfort for the students.

“We set a target for the development of this Village. After the ten days of competition, it needs to be able to welcome the University students and transform into a university campus, without additional financial investment. And we succeeded”, Eugene Vaganov commented.

For FISU Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond it is very important that this first Winter Universiade in Russia takes place in the centre of the country, in a modern city with a modern university: “I am delighted to see that here in Krasnoyarsk, the university has already made a lot of effort for the organisation of the Universiade. Of course, much work remains to be done over the next four years, but we are also very pleased to learn that many student-volunteers are involved in the organisation of this great event.”
At the meeting, representatives of FISU and the local University further discussed the subject on the preparation of the volunteers. Some 5,000 volunteers are expected for the 2019 Krasnoyarsk WU. Therefore, a second village with dormitories for the volunteers will also be built.

“The Universiade is a sports competition, but it also allows students to interact with other students from around the world. The Village will also be built for that purpose and will offer also many opportunities for various recreational athletes. I am convinced that this Village concept will be successful”, FISU 1st Vice-President Oleg Matytsin added.
The FISU delegates and the Director of the OC of the 2019 Winter Universiade Maxim Urazov then met with students of the University. In a lively dialogue, several topics were discussed: the Universiade worldwide and in Russia, the benefits of the Universiade for the city of Krasnoyarsk, maintenance and development, organising volunteers, the skills to be part of the Universiade. It is with great satisfaction that the FISU representatives noted the active role played by the students in the preparation of the Universiade. They will spare no effort to prove to the world that the city of Krasnoyarsk is able to host a sporting event of the magnitude of the Universiade.
