GWANGJU – The countdown for the 28th Summer Universiade Gwangju has entered its final phase. Indeed, in less than 100 days the Opening Ceremony of the 2015 Summer Universiade will be held in the main stadium of this Korean university city.
No less than 21 sports feature on the programme of this year’s university summer games, i.e. the compulsory sports athletics, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, fencing, tennis, table tennis, diving, swimming, water polo, football, basketball, volleyball and the optional disciplines archery, badminton, baseball, golf, handball, rowing, shooting sport and taekwondo.
The Universiade will be held from 3 to 14 July 2015 and will host more than 10,000 participants, including some 8,000 athletes.
The draw for the team sports and the meeting of the heads of delegation will take place next month in Gwangju (from 11 to 15 April) and will be the last major test for the Organising Committee. Feedback from the FISU delegates will be essential and will help the OC to make final adjustments to welcome the delegations in July.
Concurrently with the Universiade, the FISU Conference will take place from 11 to 14 July. This academic conference, themed “The Impact of University Sport on the Global Community”, will be open to all accredited persons.
