Koreans supporting Summer Universiade

5 July 2015

GWANGJU – Colourful flags, posters and signs dedicated to the Summer Universiade can be spotted on every corner – without a doubt, the city of Gwangju ‘lives’ this multi-sport event. And as demonstrated by the Opening Ceremony’s high traffic, it looks like the local residents are ready to support and cheer too.

“I think it is a good opportunity to introduce our country to foreigners. Personally, the Universiade is my first time attending such a big international event. I have met a lot of new people and I am taking one of the visitors to a souvenir shop too“, says Hyun-Jee Kim, a young girl from Seoul and adds: “I am interested in volleyball so I definitely won’t miss any of the matches.“

Choi-Hwan Sik is a 24 year old student from Gwangju: “In my opinion, it is a great chance for my city to hold the Summer Universiade. A lot of people from all around the world can meet our culture and customs.”

“I enjoy the Universiade and I am happy that it is held in my country“, says Roh Eun Sol, the 18 year old student from Busan, the second largest city in Korea. “I had already a chance to see fencing, which I am a big fan of. I cheer for Lee Sol, the Korean fencer,“ adds as she leaves with her group of friends.
