GWANGJU – Entertainment at the Universiade has ignited Gwangju into the city of light. In an effort to provide an EPIC experience, the Gwangju Organizing Committee has brought an array of culture, fair play, and entertainment to the Universiade.
Be:Star Entertainment group arrived on the scene at multiple venues for live performances before, during, and after competitions. Based out of Busan, the group sings a large array of music with a twist accompanied by the violin and saxophone.
The core group of eight members can primarily be found performing at the Judo, baseball, and handball venues. Like many other volunteers at the Universiade, the group had similar motives for getting involved, “We wanted to contribute to the games and promote a positive image of Korea. Because these events are for universities students, we wanted to be able to do something for them.”
Performing in front of other Koreans is part of their everyday routine, which is why the group came forward to help the city of Gwangju and their county. “We have been performing in front of Korean people so it is exciting to play for young people from all around the world.” The Universiade is a special experience for Be:Star Entertainment as they typically do not have the opportunity to perform at sporting events or an international crowd. “It was a very neat experience during our performance when the spectators stood up and were participating,” said the group.
They typically play more traditional Korean music, but at the games they make sure to get the crowd engaged. “Because there are younger people here we like to play a variety of pop music.” With the crowd on their feet dancing along the Korean stars certainly made their mark on the world.
