GWANGJU – Jong Hyeon Park is a 77-years old member of the organizing committee from Korea. This resident of Gwangju city is giving his best to accommodate people, who have come to celebrate sports at the 28th edition of the Summer Universiade 2015 at the beautiful city of Gwangju, with his translation skills. He speaks several languages including English, German and Japanese.
Park is a retired English teacher; he has worked at middle and high school level and volunteered for 25 years at an International cooperation agency.
Park has a hobby of collecting coins from different countries. He shared some of his collection and proudly said, “so far I have 100 coins from different countries. I wish to collect another 100 coins and then donate them to Gwangju Museum.”
His happy and welcoming nature and his passion to meet people, learn different cultures and languages and make new friends has helped him forming some life-long memories and a few strong bonds during the 28th Summer Universiade 2015.
Commenting on the Universiade, he said, “Gwangju Universiade is a great event. It is the first major international competition in Gwangju. It is a very big opportunity for young people who are volunteering. It will help them to learn and explore their potentials,” he concluded.
