The 2015 Gwangju Universiade debriefing meeting began on 5 October in Taipei to pass down important assets and organizing experiences of the Universiade. The participants were welcomed by Dr. Ming-shiun Chen, CEO of Taipei Organizing Committee. During the Debriefing meeting plenary session Mr. Marc Vandenplas, FISU Summer Universiade Director, welcomed the audience and invited Mr Yoonsuk Kim, Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee Secretary-General, to share the Gwangju Universiade knowledge while giving valuable recommendations to the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade organizers. Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation (CTUSF) Secretary General Ching-yu Tseng was also one of the plenary session speakers.

The Debriefing included meetings of various functions involved in the Summer Universiade organization, such as broadcasting, accreditation, delegation services, medical services, marketing and licensing, security, sports, venues operations and management, knowledge management, catering, ICT, as well as on-site visits including the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies and the headquarter hotels.

More than 200 representatives of the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade Organising Committee attended related sessions from the 2015 Summer Universiade organisers as well as from the FISU delegates. Representatives from the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk, host of the 2019 Winter Universiade, were also present as observers of this meeting.

Inspection Visits

As part of the 2017 Taipei Universiade venue verification process, four FISU Technical Delegates also visited Taipei to inspect the sports venues, supporting facilities, and competition schedules, offering recommendations for subsequent adjustments.

Summer Universiade Manager Jing Zhao and Sport Assistant Melanie Stallecker arrived in Taipei last Tuesday to hold functional meetings on publications, catering, and transportation as well as to make on-site visits of various Taipei Universiade venues. By referencing experiences of the Gwangju Universiade, the Competition Division was also recommended to complete competition venue management specifications before the second venue inspection scheduled next year in order to facilitate subsequent venue operations. These specifications shall be provided to various competition TD who shall inspect and discuss the specifications as required.

Given that the Taipei Stadium will be used as the venue for athletic events as well as the opening ceremony, more personnel must be devoted to clearing the site to prevent affecting the subsequent competitions. Relevant plans for clearing the opening ceremony venue should be formulated as quickly as possible. Considering that the basketball courts and Athletes’ Village are relatively close to each other, the five competition venues originally planned may be changed to four venues to reduce expenses. However, current plans may be retained as well.
