ALMATY – Delegates from the FISU International Technical Committee (CTI) are currently in Almaty for a 2nd Inspection Visit which started on 12 October. The aim of the CTI is to define the readiness of the sports venues for the 28th Winter Universiade in 2017.
Participants of this 2nd CTI Meeting are Winter Universiade CTI Chair Roger Roth, Winter Universiade CTI Vice-Chair Philip Robert, Winter Universiade Director Milan Augustin, Medical Committee Vice-Chair Dusan Hamar, President of National University Sports Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Zakiryanov, Deputy Head of Department of Sport and Physical culture of Almaty city Administration Sagymbaev Naizabek, FISU Technical Delegates, sport managers, venue managers and other specialists who take part in the preparation of the 2017 Winter Universiade.
CTI Meeting in session
The meeting was opened by a welcoming speech from the President of the National University Sports Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Zakiryanov. Deputy Director of the Organising Committee for the International Sports Events in Almaty Nurzhan Abilkhaiyr informed the participants on the preparation process of the Almaty Games.
The inspection visit will last until 15 October during which the FISU Technical Delegates will visit the dedicated Universiade sports venues, i.e. ‘Shymbulak’, ‘Tabagan’, ‘Alatau’, ‘Sunkar’, the Ice Palace (12,000 seats), the Ice Arena (3,000 seats), the Sports Palace, ‘Medeo outdoor ice arena’ and also the medical venues.
Construction site visit
Main topic for discussion between the technical delegates and the Organising Committee is the construction of sports venues, process of optimisation of the functional areas to hold the Winter Universiade on a high international level.
The Technical Committee will inspect the building sites of the new venues. The Delegates will give an assessment to the Organizing Committee at this stage of preparation for hosting the Universiade in Almaty.
