Lucerne, Candidate City for the 2021 WU, meets FISU in Lausanne for a Working Visit

LAUSANNE – A delegation from Lucerne, candidate city for hosting the 2021 Winter Universiade, travelled to Lausanne for a working meeting with the FISU Winter Universiade Department. Urs Hunkeler, Chairman of the bidding committee, Beat Hensler, Secretary General of the Central Switzerland’s Governments Conference, Regula Schweizer, Head of Media and Communication and Leonz Eder, Managing director of the Swiss University Sports Federation and FISU 1st Vice President met with Director Milan Augustin and his colleagues Jiho Kim and Paula Forni from the Winter Universiade Department. They discussed some topics from the bidding document, such as sport venues, concept of accommodation and transportation and further steps until the bid book will be finalized by mid of January 2016.

Later on, the group of Lucerne had a chance to meet with FISU President Oleg Matytsin and Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond. They had some talks about handing over of the bid books to FISU, the programme of the evaluation visit, the presentation of the candidature in front of the EC at the meeting in Brussels in March 2016 and the attribution agreement. President Matytsin underlined the fact that the candidature of Lucerne-Central Switzerland is important both for FISU and Switzerland, and Eric Saintrond said that for the first time FISU is partner in such a project from a very early stage. On behalf of the Swiss University Sports Federation, Leonz Eder thanked the FISU top leaders and the WU Department for the trust in the SUSF and its partners from Lucerne and for the constructive way to develop this project hand in hand. Urs Hunkeler also thanked FISU for the very fruitful feedback to the draft of the bid book, and he guaranteed that the bidding committee will undertake all efforts to provide a candidature dossier to the FISU Executive Committee which will fulfil the expectations of the FISU.
