ALMATY – Bauyrzhan Baibek, the Mayor of Almaty, has inspected the construction progress of sport venues involved in the 2017 Winter Universiade, the press service of the Almaty Mayor’s office informed.
These sport venues will be a heritage for the next generations of Almaty residents. They will be opened next year, announced as the year of the millennial anniversary of Almaty. As it was reported earlier, the millennial anniversary of Almaty was included into the list of the special dates of UNESCO.
The Mayor stressed that despite the conditions of the world economy, the construction of the Universiade venues will not be suspended and will be completed as scheduled.
Construction of all the venues will be completed by 30 August, 2016. The warming-up skating rink of the Ice Palace with 3,000 seats located in the Medeu Arena will be completed by 22 March, 2016, while construction of the main arena, the administrative building, and improvement of public services on the territory will be completed by 6 July. The construction and installation works of the administrative building, basin area, and warming-up skating rink of the Ice Palace for 12,000 people are already completed. The completion date of the main block of the venue is planned for 9 May, 2016.
In the Athletes’ Village, 4 house blocks for 5,000 people will be completed by 22 March, 4 more house blocks by 9 May and construction of 2 remaining house blocks by 6 July. Improvement of public services on the territory will be completed by 1 August. Completion of all construction and installation works and completion of the venue is controlled by the Mayor of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baibek.
