Lucerne 2021 Bid Committee presents its Bid to the Media

LUCERNE – Today the Bidding Committee of the 2021 Winter Universiade presented its bid book to the media. The presentation by the cantonal councillors Guido Graf and Niklaus Bleiker, the city councillor Ursula Stämmer-Horst, the president of the Swiss University Sports Federation Andreas Csonka and Urs Hunkeler, Head of the bidding committee attracted many journalists and was well received.

The bidding committee presented their slogan: ‘Welcome home!’ It refers to the hospitality that has made Central Switzerland internationally famous and to the fact that winter sports have a long tradition in the region. As early as 1900, daring pioneers from throughout Europe met in Central Switzerland to indulge their passion for skiing.

The bidding committee hopes to continue this tradition. The bid of Lucerne 2021 focuses on sustainability, know-how and tradition. With a budget of 33.5 million and an expected added value of approximately 70 million, the bid is an investment in the national promotion of sport, the local trade as well as in the tourism of the region Central Switzerland. Furthermore it will enhance the city’s reputation as a centre for education and culture.
