9 March 2016

KRASNOYARSK – There are three years left before the start of the 29th Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019. Huge preparatory works are carried out these days. The symbolic date of 2 March 2016 was celebrated with a dance flash mob, demo lessons at schools and a workshop for representatives of federal universities.

The Winter Universiade will be held in Krasnoyarsk from 2 to 12 March 2019. Mining and Metallurgical Company Norilsk Nickel is the General Partner of the Games. Athletes will compete for 73 sets of medals in 11 sports. It is expected that more than three thousand athletes and ten thousand guests will come. About five thousand volunteers will help to stage the event. This event will not only to change the city image but the quality of life of Krasnoyarsk and the Krasnoyarsk Territory citizens.

The milestone day was celebrated with three big events, which are to tell citizens of the region and country even more about the forthcoming Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019 and involve them in preparation for it.

The two-day workshop for students and rectors of federal universities started in the Siberian Federal University as the universities are to take part in holding of the University Games in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The Director General of the Executive Directorate of the 29th Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019, Maxim Urazov, told colleagues about the progress in preparation, venues, sports, legacy, which will be left to the citizens of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

“It is a symbolic time for us. Three years before the start and we understand that we perform according to the plan. It is important for us that as many people as possible become aware about the Universiade. That is why there are the workshops for students, lessons for pupils, and our promotion booth at all big events in Krasnoyarsk, the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and Russia,” noted Maxim Urazov.

A big educational marathon took place in Krasnoyarsk schools. There were 120 lessons held under the programme Education for pupils of the grades 5-11. The children learned about the Universiade and received theme-based workbooks as gifts along with bookmarks with photos of the 2019 Winter Universiade ambassadors. The children were pleased to take photos with U-Laika, the mascot of the Games.

“It was interesting for me. I knew not much about the Universiade before the lesson. And today they told us about the sports included, from where the volunteers will be, which sports venues are to be constructed,” Rita Smyshlyaeva, the pupil of Class 6m of Lyceum No. 9 said.

A dance flash mob at ‘Fun Park’

The dance flash mob in Fun Park ‘Bobrovy Log’ brightly finished the day. It is no coincidence that this place was chosen. The Fun Park is a venue for the 2019 Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk, the preparation is carried out by the General Partner of the Universiade, Norilsk Nickel Mining and Metallurgical Company.

Workshops and seminars

For two weeks more than 200 people held rehearsals with professional choreographers in order to emotionally tell in a 7-minutes dance about the sports of the Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019. Several hundreds of Krasnoyarsk citizens came to see the event. Ambassador of the Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019, Olympic silver medallist in Figure Skating, the famous producer of ice shows Ilia Averbukh became the inspirer of the flash mob. “The main thing we want to tell is that the Universiade is an event for young people: light, dynamic, and positive. We wish so much to show our Universiade as open and welcoming. We have chosen the song ‘Smile’ because we want people to smile. Let’s appreciate this moment as it is right in three years on this day the Universiade will start,” Ilia Averbukh commented.

The shooting of the dance on snow will form the basis of the new presentation clip of the Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019.
