Taipei marks 500 Day Countdown for 2017 Summer Universiade

TAIPEI CITY – We have officially passed the mark of 500 days before the start of the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade. The Chief Executive Officer of the Universiade, Li-Chiung Su, said, “via hosting this international event, the hardware and software facility of Taipei’s sport venues will be upgraded and improved to meet the international standards. In addition, we hope to promote Taipei, let the world come to know Taipei and fall in love with her, as well as invite the public to participate in this biggest sporting event in Chinese Taipei of the past 400 years.”

The Universiade is expecting to recruit 12,000 student-volunteers and 6,000 social volunteers. The enrollment for that has been very active so far.

During the 500-day countdown for the Universiade, Athlete Mr. Kunhui Chiu, who has participated in the ‘1964 Japan Tokyo Olympics torch relay to Taipei’, was invited to the site to share his witness to the past city glory. In addition, Archer Mei-Chian Xiong, who will compete in the Universiade next year, and roller skaters, Hong You & Ben-Che You, were present as well coming to share their difficult journey of training for the event.

2017 Universiade’s mascot ‘Bravo’ the bear is calling for tourists, either domestic or foreign, to join the ‘Bravo mountain hiking team’: “Let’s go working out together on the Taipei hiking trails as a way to celebrate the coming of the Universiade!”
