ALMATY – Today, the Mayor of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baibek met with the delegates of the FISU Supervision Committee. It should be noted that it is the first inspection visit of the FISU Supervision Committee to Almaty.
During the meeting the sides summarized the accomplished work in the framework of the preparation for the 28th Winter Universiade 2017 in Almaty and discussed the further cooperation plan.
“The venues of the Winter Universiade are 80% complete. The terms of further exploitation of the venues and infrastructure are already being discussed, businesses are being involved. The construction of the venues will proceed in accordance with FISU requirements”, stressed the Mayor.
In turn, the FISU Supervision Committee representatives pointed out that the Winter Universiade in Almaty has already reached the record number of participating countries. As of today, 64 countries registered to participate in Winter Universiade.
During the meeting, the CSU Chair, FISU Vice-President Marian Dymalski noted that the preparation for the Games goes in accordance with plan: “Yesterday we had a meeting with the Winter Universiade Organising Committee. The whole team is working in order to achieve one common goal: a high level Winter Universiade.”
The FISU Winter Universiade Director Milan Augustin expressed his confidence that the Games will strengthen the international image of Almaty and Kazakhstan: “We hope that more than 60 countries that registered to take part in the Winter Universiade will be satisfied with the 2017 Winter Universiade. Kazakhstan is a big country known not only for the successes in the economic sphere but also in sport. There are many Olympic champions and I think that during the Universiade you will show the best of your country and the Winter Universiade will be one of the best in the history of FISU.”
The FISU deleagtes were generally satisfied with the preparation level of the venues.
“We inspected the Athletes’ Village and the Ice Palace with a 12,000 capacity. We were impressed. We have a huge experience in the organization of Winter Universiades and we think that the Winter Universiade in Almaty will be among the most beautiful and well-organized events”, stressed the CSU Vice-Chair Kairis Ulp.
During the working meeting the Supervision Committee was given an interim report of the preparation for the Winter Universiade in different functional areas: accreditation, sport services, branding, preparation of volunteers, transportation, informational and medical services, accommodation, food and beverage, opening and closing ceremonies.
Almaty will host the 28th Winter Universiade from January 29 to February 8, 2017. More than 2,000 athletes from 64 countries are expected to take part in the Games. The events will be hold in 8 venues in 12 sport disciplines.
