SU2017 1st CSU Inspection Visit – Day One

TAIPEI CITY – The FISU Summer Universiade Supervision Committee (CSU), led by its Chair also the FISU 1st Vice President Leonz Eder, the CSU Vice-Chair Kemal Tamer, the CSU members Hisato Igarashi and Kenny Chow, as well as the FISU Staff from the General Secretariat, started its 1st CSU Inspection Visit on 13th May in Taipei, the host city of 2017 Summer Universiade.

In the morning, the Universiade Organising Committee led by the Deputy CEO Chia-wen Hung, and all the FISU delegates, went to the Taipei City Sports Park and the National Taiwan Sport University to look over the respective venues and facilities therein. The Organising Committee presented an onsite report on their overall plan for the spatial arrangement of the basketball court and its surrounding facilities in the Taipei Arena, as well as the entrance-exit route for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the Taipei Municipal Stadium.

In the afternoon, the meetings were chaired by the Deputy CEO, Chuen-Ming Hsueh, during which the Organising Committee reported on the progress of the overall preparations of the 2017 Summer Universiade, Sports and Sport Services, as well as Venue Readiness and Operations.

In his opening speech, Mr. Hsueh emphasised, “The Organising Committee has been working hard in order to prepare the 2017 Summer Universiade and has reached lots of key milestones, e.g. the construction progress of the Athletes’ Village, the selection of sport venues, recruitment of volunteers, seeking for sponsorships, etc. Today is 470 days to go, and we have the confidence that the Taipei OC, together with FISU will achieve a great success at the 2017 Summer Universiade.”

Mr. Eder further commented on this very first CSU Inspection Visit in Taipei, “We are eager to listen to your progress reports. For some of them you are already in advance while for others you may need to work hard, which is normal for the preparation of a multi- sport event at such scale. We will for sure share with you our experience and ideas in order to deliver the successful event in 2017.

A welcome dinner was hosted by the CEO of the Organising Committee Li-Chiung Su, joined by the FISU President Oleg Matytsin, the Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond, the CSU members and the FISU staff, as well as the Director General of the Sports Administration of Ministry of Education, the President and the Secretary General of CTUSF, and other representatives from relevant institutions.

The CSU Inspection Visit will last for another two days and be concluded on the afternoon of 15th May.
