2017 SU: 1st CSU Inspection Visit Successful Concluded

TAIPEI CITY – 14 May was the second day of the CSU Inspection Visit. On the morning, the FISU delegation conducted a thorough inspection to the Athletes’ Village, which included onsite visit to the sample apartments as well as a presentation on the Athletes’ Village construction progress. “The concept of the SU2017 Athletes’ Village is very good,” commented the FISU President Oleg Matytsin during this visit, “Indeed, the Athletes’ Village is one of the most important sites for the Summer Universiade. The FISU team together with the Organising Committee will do the best to provide satisfactory conditions to the delegations. There are always some challenges but we can always find good solutions. We do not have much time now but we have all the confidence to host the, as we always say, the best Summer Universiade in 2017.”

During the afternoon, the Organising Committee continued with presentations on all key functional areas, such as Delegation Services, Broadcasting, Media Services, Food and Beverage, Transportation, Accreditation and Security, etc.

Meeting with Mayor Ko

Today is the last day of the inspection as well as the 460 days count-down to the 2017 Summer Universiade. This morning, the FISU President Oleg Matytsin, accompanied by the CSU Chair Leonz Eder, and the FISU Secretary General/CEO, Eric Saintrond, had a private meeting with the Taipei Mayor Wen-Je Ko, to exchange comments and suggestions of the Universiade preparation. Mayor Ko expressed his appreciations on the long term cooperation and close interaction between the Organising Committee and FISU, and also guaranteed to take the precious suggestions in order to better prepare the event.

The CSU Inspection Visit was then concluded in the afternoon, with further presentations on Protocol and Ceremonies, Marketing and Branding, Information and Communication Technology, and site visits to the FISU Hotel and the potential venue for the FISU Gala in 2017.

In the closing speech, the CEO of the Taipei OC, Li-Chiung Su, promised that every day from now on will be used to the extreme, “We are very grateful for this CSU Inspection Visit as well as all the instruction and suggestions from the CSU members and the FISU staff. Only with FISU the Taipei Organising Committee will have the confidence to deliver a successful 2017 Summer Universiade.”

Athletes’ Village under construction

The CSU Chair and FISU First Vice President Leonz Eder further commented, “Thank you for the very well prepared progress reports, we are grateful for the work done so far. The Universiade is a complicated and big project, it requires you as the host city and FISU as the event owner to cooperate close together.”

As mentioned during the FISU President’s words, the Universiade is a great project for the students and all FISU member associations. “We should be proud, and you should be proud that together we organise the Universiade in Taipei city. We will demonstrate the unity and integrity of our events to the future leaders – the student athletes. We have resources, knowledge and experiences and we are a great team together, I am sure we will be proud of our event in 2017.”
