ULAANBAATAR – The long awaited 11th World University Archery Championship has begun. On June 2nd from 5:00 pm, the Opening ceremony took place in the National Stadium of Ulaanbaatar and student-athletes from 23 countries 212 participants (87 men and 79 women total 166 players) were marching on the stadium.
During the opening ceremony welcome speech from Mr. Lambaa Sambuu, Minister of Health and Sport of Mongolia. Minister say is “National archery sports has been developed in Mongolia since ancient time and has become one is very popular sport in Mongolia”. Deputy Prime Minister and President of OC Mr. Oyunbaatar Ts. officially opened the championship.
From FISU Executive Committee Mr. Tai-Cheng Chen, Member of EC FISU saying official opening remark for the 11th WUC Archery 2016 and added that he was really impressed by Ulaanbaatar the level of archery sport facilities. The Ceremony saw the hoisting of the Mongolian national flag and the FISU flag while the national anthem of Mongolia and anthem of FISU “Gaudeamus igitur”.
Also at the opening ceremony attended members of FISU M. Tai-cheng Chen – CISCA chair, Mr. Wen Ling YEH – Medical Committee, Mr. Xiahoua DONG – CIC member, Mr. Juan Carlos Holgado – Technical delegate for Archery event and WA International referees and technicians.
From OC and NUSF of Mongolia attend Mr. Bat-uul E. – Governor of capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Mongolia, Mr. Bayasgalan- FISU Treasurer and President NUSF Mongolia, Mr. Tsagaan P. – President of Mongolian Archery Association, Mr. Bakykjan Kh- General director of PC and sports Ministry of Health and Sports Mongolia, Mr. Erkhembulgan P –Director of Higher Education Division, Ministry of Education, Culture and science of Mongolia, Mr. Jargalsaikhan D – FISU CIC Vice President and Chairman of physical Culture and Sports Development Center of Mongolia and other officials, guest and members of OC. During the opening ceremony was presented the Mongolian national fairytale about “The legend of the archer”, as well as we have seen the shows about the Mongolian cultural heritage, tradition and national archery, songs and music performances.
The first competition day will start on 3 June and the Qualification Rounds started punctually at 8:30 am. Qualification Rounds for individual Recurve competitions at a distance of 70 m and, individual compound at a distance of 50m than team matches (each team was composed of one male and one female archer) started. On 4 June, from 8:30 am, we will witness the Individual Matches and Recurve bow’s athletes will compete first, followed by the compound archers. At the end of the day we will know the bronze medalists athletes.
All finals are scheduled on Sunday 5 June at the Central Square Chingiss Khaan of Ulaanbaatar. The 11th WUC Archery will be the first sport event which will be held at the Central Square.
The competition will be direct live broadcasted on Education TV of Mongolia (www.edutv.mn, tv.onair.mn/watch/edu) and World Archery (www.worldarchery.org) TV via the internet.
