CALI – This week, FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond travelled to Cali, Colombia to meet local authorities and present the project Universiade 2021.
Already an organizer of the World Games in 2013 and many world championships including the World Junior Championships in Athletics (IAAF) in 2015, the city of Cali would make a perfect host city for the Universiade.
Populated by 2.5 million inhabitants, Cali has an impressive array of sports facilities. Many of them were built for the 1971 Pan American Games.
Silvio Lopez, City Secretary for Sport, confirmed his strong interest in hosting an event like the Universiade in his city and its region.
The FISU Secretary General/CEO then met with Norman Maurice Armitage Cadavid, the mayor of the city who also confirmed his enthusiasm for the idea of hosting the Universiade in Cali. He will present the project to the President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos.
